This Golf Digest four-star, and top 50 value golf course deserves recognition for more than just its quality of play and low green fees. This municipal Minneapolis golf course received the Links Magazine Audubon International "1996 Best of Golf" award in the category of golf and the environment. Green fees are in the $22-$30 range. The course is about 20 miles from downtown Minneapolis.

Francis A. Gross Golf Course

Opened way back in 1925, this classic public Minneapolis golf course was the Minneapolis areas first. To this day however, it remains the Minneapolis' most played golf course. If you can brave the crowds, its a three-star golf experience for around $20 a play.

Braemar Golf Course

This three-and-a-half star Minneapolis golf course just eight miles from the Twin Cities features twenty-seven holes of championship golf, a 9-hole executive course and an indoor year-round practice facility. The 18-hole championship combinations are: Castle Course/Hays Course, (6,739 yards), Clunie Course/Castle Course (6,660 yards) and Hays/Clunie (6,330 yards). Green fees are a bargain at $30-$35.

Edinburgh USA Golf Club

This Robert Trent Jones II design opened in 1987 about fifteen minutes from downtown Minneapolis. This Minneapolis golf course is a four-star track, featuring unique course design that includes an island hole (the 17th) and a rare triple green, shared by the 9th, 18th and the courses practice green. The Edinburgh USA has played host to numerous LPGA and top national amateur events. Shot making is emphasized over power here. Green fees are a steal at $45-$55.

Les Bolstad University of Minnesota Golf Club

This old-style St. Paul golf course first opened in 1922, and in 1983 was renamed after coach Les Bolstad who led the Gopher golf team from 1947-1976. This Minneapolis golf course has played host to many NCAA events, including the Big Ten Championship. The course has been described by local golfers as "busy but fun" and "very tough for high handicappers." Green fees are an outstanding value at $15-$25.

Rush Creek Golf Club

Rush Creek is just a 20-minute drive from downtown Minneapolis. This Minneapolis golf course comes in at just over 7,000 yards and was designed by Bob Cupp and John Fought. Featuring intricate winding canals intersecting most holes, and an open, links style layout, Rush Creek opened in 1996. Green fees at this three-and-a-half star course are in the $50-$100 range.
